Exercise 8 - Pre&Final Jury Assignment

#SEVENTEEN

For this assignment, we are expected to design seventeen interrelated voids with varying qualities. We are required to use one single cardboard element and three other design elements (such as translucent acetate paper, mesh, and sticks).

For my first model, I decided to use grouping method to establish a rule in my design. Then for each group, I used a development like the 5 void assignment project. Then I tried to bring them together. Although they combine each other in one edge, one part of development overlapped.

The voids cannot easily be detected because the model is very close in itself and size difference between voids is unproportional.

Then I changed my groups' development and added some perpendicular triangles to avoid have big differences between sizes.

The organization is linear because voids relations between the groups are from one location and translucent acetate paper is like a useless material of my model. I thought to use translucent acetate paper to break the linearity.

In my pre-jury model, I combined groups with translucent acetate paper to create flow between groups then I used stick elements and wire mesh to define voids. Stick elements as perpendicular triangles and wire mesh as isosceles triangles.  I bring my groups together with the same edge.
It is told me that I couldn't break the linearity at all and the size of translucent paper is too big.

To the final jury, I tried to correct my mistakes and deficiencies and improve my design. while designing we are required to use one single cardboard element as a continuous surface and I wanted to choose this approach for my self-designing way. Then I use translucent acetate paper continuously like the cardboard and sticks in a continuous manner as isosceles triangular surfaces.
The perpendicular triangles in my development consist of half the equilateral ones and the other group is dimensioned with reference to the long perpendicular side of the perpendicular triangle. thus I avoided having too much difference between sizes. I create similar voids in these groups in terms of size and shape. In every group, there are five voids and I defined two more voids that allow flow between groups with the use of translucent acetate paper.
